Buying a gun on consignment

Is buying a gun on consignment at a store considered a PPT or a transfer. I was just reading another thread that someone bought a gun on consignment and were charged a transfer fee and tax but I always thought consignment is considered PPT

On consignments you are buying from the seller so it would be a ppt charge. The FFL is making money from a cut of the sale. The 30 day wait is to verify not stolen.

It's somewhat of a PPT and somewhat not a PPT.

It's a PPT in the sense that what's on consignment is not limited to what's on the roster if it is a handgun. It also does not count towards your 1 in 30 day for new handgun purchase. It's not a PPT in the sense that you don't meet the seller FTF, the LGS is the seller as it comes out of their inventory.

*I think. I've only bought 2 consignment guns and that's how it worked.

I've bought two on consignment at the same time. It was as straightforward as any sale, but one must have just come in because it had a 24 day waiting period.

I had a 10 wait period - just like any other gun & no taxes. As mentioned already, consignment sales don't fall under the 1 (handgun) in 30 days rules.

Not sure what others are saying with the 30 & 24 day waits. I know that once the owner submits the gun for consignment - it is not immediately available but I was able to pick one from the shelf and just wait the normal 10 days.

Sold one last year on consignment. The 30 day wait is for the LGS to get clearance from the local police - the police are supposed to check if the gun ids ok to sell and not stolen or anything. During the 30 day period the LGS cannot sell it but they can show it. Don't know whether it is sold as a PPT or transfer, but it is definitely entered into their inventory.

This. I have bought several from Turner's over the years. Plus a side benefit of buying a consignment gun was that I could put it on my credit card through the store instead of having to pay cash to the original owner.

A consignment is a PPT.

However, since the dealer induced the sale at his place of business the Board of Equalization has ruled they must collect sales tax on the transaction.

I got a Bersa Thunder on consignment right when the shop put it out. It sucked because I had to wait the 30 days and then another ten day wait because they said that I couldn't start the DROS until after the 30 days. That sucked, especially since I drove over an hour to find that out.
