Are guns just tools to some members?

I was just reading another thread, and a member mentioned that guns are not cool. Does anyone have a gun on here because it's just a "tool"? For me, no matter how many times I've seen or handled a firearm, I'll still jump at the chance to see someone's favorite handgun, because I think there is a cool factor.

I'm thinking that the "just-a-tool" factor is kinda like how some people view cars. Some people really love different types of cars, and some could care less if their car smelled like ***; it's just something to get them from point a-to-b.

I have lots of cool tools, and some of them are guns.

I have met the guns are only tools type folks before. I semi feel that way, I don't name my guns or stuff like that but I do like the historical significance and cool factor of some guns.

I'm not big on cars really, I like some nice ones but I really don't care too much as long as it is a good running reliable car. I do like nice motorcycles within reason though. I generally won't own a Japanese one even though they are very good. Not practical I know but whatever.

guns not cool? in this forum!?

        is hannah montana back?

that being said, I have guns which I regard as tools, and I have ones that double as symbols and representations of a historical significance

-example: my .38, it is an instrument of protection, it is also a symbol of engineering adapted for military use during hostile political eras. It is a symbol of democracy and the beliefs of capitalist growth used against the hostilities of both dictatorial socialism and facism during the 1940s and 50s.

example2: The mosin nagant: it is a symbol of pure industry, churned by rapid response to the need of weaponry due to habitual strife between the borders of two very large superpowers. The sheer crude simplicity of the design had in mind, a user freindly weapon that can easily be maintained by lightly trained conscripted soldiers. Longevity of the soldier was not really a consideration for some variation, but in another perhaps it was. These designs had durability, usability, hardiness, and simplicity

there ya have it, it's also a learning tool

me and a friend of mine were up in the hills on a shooting trip. well long story short truck got stuck, it was getting dark, and we were about 15 miles from the nearest sign of life and we needed fire. sooo a 12ga with bird shot makes a handy wood chopper for those pesky branches you can't break down into smaller pieces by hand. my shoulder was a bit stiff but i didn't think about too much next to that nice warm fire. p.s. only did this because i had too, it was a bit unsafe and i would not recommend it unless you are going to freeze to death. i will be better prepared next time.

I enjoy firearms, so I guess that means that I think that they're "cool", but....

Before Nikita Kruschev died, he stated that some of his Generals approached him with a plan for invading the USA with Soviet ground troops. Kruschev said that he studied the plan and found it viable, but knew that it wouldn't work. Why? Because he believed that there were enough guns in the USA to arm every man, woman and child....and that Americans valued their freedoms too much to just give up without a fight!

Yes, guns are "cool", but they're also "tools" for keeping your freedoms intact!

I suppose all of my firearms could be considered as home defense "tools", hunting rifles or paper punchers...but my P229 .40 would be the one that would fall into that first category first.

I fire her on a fairly regular basis, but not nearly as much as my other guns.

I think they are, first, Works of Art. I'm simply amazed at their ability and I respect/revere their lethality and their political equalizing ability. Second, they are recreational toys. Third, and a distant third for me, they are tools for causing great bodily harm or death in that rarest of conditions of defense.

I would give up my Boats & Outboard Motors (Vintage or not) ,Motorcycle collection (Vintage or not) and my world class stamp collection if I had to choose between them or my Guns (But some of the Liberal/Democrat Firearms afficianados here and at various other gun forums consider Firearms a 3rd or 4th tier Hobby and would gladly move on to Para sailing or Adult leage park soceer...

Firearms are everything mentioned - Works of Art, symbols of man's technological achievement, historical relics, reflections of a man's personality and interests, and even status symbols.

But, firearms are FIRST AND FOREMOST, WEAPONS! They have the ability to kill to put food on the table, to keep yourself and your family safe from criminals, to keep your property and livelihood safe, and to keep your community and country safe from those who would do it harm.

In my opinion, if you do not regard and respect them as weapons first and everything else second, then you should find a different "hobby."

Defensive tools, but they sure are cool!

Why does there have to be a difference? Ain't nothing wrong with Cool Tools... (remember them?)

Guns are tools which allow me to accomplish a task. They are no different that a saw, hammer or screw driver all of which are extremely dangerous in the wrong hands and capable of inflicting great pain and siffering if used for the wrong purpose.

That said all my guns have names as do a lot of my tools which I use on a regular basis.
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.
