    Firearms-Related Research Paper Topic

    Hi all,

Long time lurker here, but finally decided to register, although I do have an ulterior motive...

I've got a 30-page Masters Capstone coming up and I wanted to do a firearms related topic. I just can't pick out which one. Would you all mind throwing recommendations out at me?

How much time do you have?

That would help to narrow the scope to something you could research in a reasonable period.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

How about CA gun control and the lack of impact on crime?

Well, the topic is due Sunday, but the paper itself is do in another class (I'm in class 1/2 for a Capstone) which I project will be May-June timeframe.

Just picking firearms related-research because a) there's a plethora of data b) I have high interest in it.

        Thanks.

Thinking about the research methodology for this, would I compare crime stats to CCWs, or lack thereof? I want to avoid socioeconomic or race related statistics (quite obviously gun violence in Beverly Hills is statistically incomparable to Compton or Hawthorne). Maybe I can't, I don't know...

How about "Why is it that policy makers have no good data on who owns guns?"

Look into why research instruments are not providing the answers (telephone surveys, primarily) and the weaknesses of attempting to use proxies to measure gun ownership.

As a researcher, you should simply eliminate the word "obviously" from your vocabulary.
