I did a search and didn't see anything related, so hopefully not a dupe:

"In a high-stress, high-personal-risk zone, there will be a real temptation for soldiers to turn the tunable lethality switch up to 'kill' mode so that all doubt is removed."
Yup, exactly. Also, it would be too easy to accidentally/negligently have your gun set to the wrong lethality setting.

With beanbag rounds and other "less than lethal" cartridges, they are at least used in visibly marked guns with bright orange or green stocks most of the time, and it's all or nothing. They are either loaded totally with lethal rounds, or totally with less lethal rounds, no other variables involved.

Still, maybe this is the awesome return of the gyro-jet?

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

      Stupid.

      Simply stupid.

They say using different types of rounds for lethal and less than lethal- Hmm... rubber booolit with less powder... lead/copper with more powder for lethal.....

All fired from same gun.... no knob or switch to turn- load 1 or the other and have a go.

      KISS remember?

Sounds like an accident waiting to happen due to a "malfunction".
