Transporting handguns

I am still confused on how I can transport my handguns in my pick up truck. Seems like everyone has their own idea of this law. Can I have my handgun in a locked soft case in my pick up. Can I have a loaded magazine in the same soft carrying case as long as it is not in the gun? If not can I carry that same loaded magazine in the outside pocket of the same soft carrying case. Again the case is locked. I would love a LEO to give me the gospel on this?

There truly is only one answer, which you will hear many times on this forum. You may also go to the CHP frequently asked question, (just google it) and find the same answer. Yes locked soft case(unloaded) with loaded magazine in same case, just not in magwell and you are good to go. Others may be worried about how leos may react but that is different than the law.

If in locked container and not loaded you can have it in the truck cabin. You can have loaded magazines in the same container but NOT in the gun.

Yes! So long as you refuse to answer the question of "where you are going?" or "where you are coming from?". Period. As asked! The destination rule dose not apply unless you answer! USA! USA! USA!

'Destination requirements' do not apply to in-vehicle transport at all. It's an issue for motorcycles and bicycles - vehicles with no 'inside'.

The definition of a 'Loaded Firearm' is in the California Penal Code.

I have not heard of anyone being charged with violations against CHP's FAQ page.

Until Wikipedia people start patrolling the highways and throwing citizens in the Slammer for weapon violations I'll use their information for entertainment purposes only.

That is what I gleaned from what I've read on this forum as well as other places. One of the ranges I shoot at I brought my gun in in its hard case. Two loaded mags in the same locked case nothing in the gun. When I opened the case for inspection he said that is not legal to have those magazines in there with the gun. Not jumping me but more like an FYI. He's been spot on with other advise (reloading mostly)
