    Quick California Law question.

I am asking for my friend. I am not too sure of the answer since its one of those things that dont apply to me since I am a borned US citizen.

He just received his Green Card in the mail. Is he able to purchase a long gun? Specifically an AR off-list receiver?

Yes, handguns too. He will need to bring his green card to the dealer when he is ready to buy.

As a permanent resident I too have to provide more documentation than the average gun owner. I needed to show CA. drivers license, green card, HSC, and proof of residency (I used my lease agreement). But if I were to buy a rifle or shotgun from the same store I would just need to furnish a drivers license.

Your FFL is in error on this. And so are you.

If you are NOT a U.S. citizen, on BOTH long gun and hand gun sales you must provide a three month proof of residency and they must me consecutive and within the the past ninety days.

This is a Federal (BATFE) Law, not a state law. Unlike the California proof of residency for handguns, the Federal proof is a lot more lenient as to what you can present.

I used my lease agreement for both the state and federal forms. Sorry about the misinformation on the long guns.
