    Rat hunting with Nigh Vision?

I've been watching alot of these UK rat hunt videos on Youtube where they take precharged pneumatic air rifles and lay the smack down on some rats. Pretty interesting stuff. Particuarly since making these night vision rigs is as easy as attaching a cheap Chinese IR flashlight to the scope and adding an old handy cam with nightshot on the back of the scope.

Anyone try this? Know any farmers who would like to have some rats eradicated?

You don't need to be a farmer to have a rat problem. Not sure of your location but rats in populated areas love living in these palm tree's that were imported decades ago.

So with airguns suppression is ok? I see integral pellet guns for sale here.

Can you buy screw on .177? They have .22 pellets can't imagine the pantywaiste under the white dome letting that be ok

Been hunting rats and mice with NV and thermal for about 4 years now.

I have an old Benjamin 347 pump rifle with a pair of dovetail mounting blocks that I got from McMurray and sons back in the 1980s. 4 years ago I machined an 8 inch Picatinny rail out of some scrap 6061 and stuck it on there and added a PVS-4. The PVS-4 worked ok and it fed my beagle a lot of rodents but Parallax was ridiculous and the thing was as heavy as hell to the point where going out and hunting for an hour four nights a week became more of a chore than a pleasure.

I tried a Nivisys TAM-14 thermal monocular but I am not comfortable seeing only a heat signature and nothing about what's behind my target should I miss.

About a year ago I got tired of dealing with a 4 pound optic on top of the thing and just mounted a 4.5 mw IR laser and ran helmet mounted PVS-14s. That is a pretty nice way to do things. I also stuck an IR flashlight in an offset Elzetta ZORM mount and that gives me a floody IR beam right next to the laser.

Sound management is accomplished by using only one or two pumps and a flat tipped pellet. That little thing just thwacks into the rib-cage of a rat and its all over. The little suckers don't stand a chance.

Good times! I used to do it at mission bay with a pellet gun, target rich environment! Nowadays, no way.
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

A lot of the decent break barrel setups have shrouded barrels. I have a Benjamin Trail NP in .22, great power and it is pretty quiet.

Silencers though have the same rules with regards to airguns.

That is pretty cool! Could you post a picture of that setup? It's hard to visualize.

I just purchased a cheap Chinese IR light and I want to mount on my scope with a camera adapter to run night shot.
