i am trying to sell a Winchester 94. From what I can tell after running the serial number the rifle was manufactured in 1950. After doing some digging online it seems that any rifle over 50 years old does not need a dros. I won the rifle in an auction a few years ago and I had to wait 10 days to pick it up. I may have the rifle sold and want to make sure I don't need to go through an FFL. ANy help or information would be greatly appreciated.

You have to go thru a shop and get it registered in Ca starting 1/1/14 if you want to follow the new law.

And of course, you want to follow the new law rather than wonder if you would ever be caught and convicted for the misdemeanor of not following it.

You would have been correct in 2013. But as has been posted, starting in 2014 you now have to take even C & R long guns to a FFL for transfer.

A lot of C&R ads say something about 'this rifle has been granted C&R status'. Are you sure it's any rifle over 50 years?

In 2013, in California, C&R Status was granted to any gun older than 50 years old.

in 2014, in California, C&R Status is granted to any gun older than 50 years old and to any gun listed in the ATF's list of Curio and Relic guns, many of which are newer than 50 years old.

Unless the buyer has an FFL03 + COE, all transfers must now be done through an FFL01 + DROS + 10 day wait
