You did not over-react in your thinking, but how you went about it was the wrong manner. The quickest way for anything with a trigger to go off is forcefully trying to remove it from another persons hand. It is natural instinct to try and keep a grip of an object. So yelling and grabbing is NOT the first thing to do to somebody that is sweeping you.

First, alert them to what is going on before you go grabbing anything. Then, go ahead and give them the what for.

Good point, good catch and agreed 100%.

For the record, I didn't grab the gun from him. I did however open hand palm the top of the muzzle and forced it down as he started to sweep me again. I've edited my first post to clarify that.

not at all I am same way with my nephews who have airsoft... keep barrel pointed down, know whats in front and behind what you're shooting at, keep finger off trigger tip you're ready to fire etc etc... laziness with a toy can lead to laziness with the real thing... its an issue of behavior/ attitude

Shoot "Jim" in the face with the airsoft. Then re-explain why you don't want to be swept by the gun. It's not enjoyable getting popped by a small plastic sphere moving at 600fps.

(Or pop him in the nuts...should provide a similar result)

Minus the F'n B-tits speech, I would do the same.
