Open Carry Topic on AM1170 (San Diego) 7/24

UPDATE: The OC segment will be at 9PM tonight (Thursday)

    Hi folks,

A friend of mine is guest-hosting the Rick Amato conservative talk show on San Diego’s AM1170 this Thursday (7/24) from 9PM to 11PM. I showed her the recent thread about the open carry lunch at El Indio and she thought it was cool and wants to make OC a topic on the show.

She’s a Libertarian and pro-gun/pro-carry (open and concealed). She would like for Calguns folks to call in to talk about OC - what, why, where, the laws, your personal experiences or anything else related you’d like to discuss.

Barring any guest or schedule changes (I’ll keep this thread updated), she’ll open the topic for discussion sometime in the first hour of the show (9-10PM) and will keep it going as long as there are callers who want to talk about it. The call-in number for the show is 888-344-1170.

You can also listen live on line (click the “Listen Live” button at the top left):

If you have any additional questions, PM me, post up here or you can contact the host Gayle Falkenthal directly at info@falconvalleygroup.com.

Feel free to post this info or reference this thread on any other gun forums you feel appropriate. The more folks that know about it, the more likely there will be enough callers to make the topic a success. Note that 1170 is a small station and the audience for the Rick Amato show is probably pretty small, but this is yet another avenue to educate the public and promote OC.

    Thanks,
    Joe

Mods feel free to move this under a different forum if more appropriate.

I can't take any credit. It was Gayle's idea. I only showed her the OC lunch thread in relation to telling her about being disappointed I couldn't attend due to a family event. It was totally her idea to make it a topic on the radio show.

Sorry, but I don't usually consider "Talk Radio" to be good exposure for anything legit.

BTW, the host for this show, Gayle, is a friend of Roger Hedgecock and if the OC segment and another she wants to do discussing the NRA Women on Target program go well, she's willing to talk to Hedgecock about getting these topics on his KOGO AM600 show. His show has an audience size of probably 100K+.

Sure, talk radio is primarily for entertainment, but, for example, when Hedgecock talked about Jay LaSeur and the need for CCW reform in San Diego a few months back, I sure thought that was a "legit" topic.

I take offense to the comment of talk radio not being legit. It is just as legit as the internet, more so in fact, at least there the host is a relatively public figure with verifiable credentials. I mean if it didnt have some legitimacy to it, would Rush, Savage, and the rest make such a media stirr when they say something controversal?

How the heck does that make anything legitimate?

Just look how little attention this thread about talk radio is getting.

Ok. I'm an idiot. Somehow I read the OP and thought, Tuesday. So I just tuned in on my laptop. Set up my audio stream recorder.... I'm ready to go. Then I realize it's Rick Amato's voice on the air. I get on here and check the OP... Oh... THURSDAY. Sheesh.

Hey, thanks for tuning in. Be sure to do it again on Thursday.

I just gave Gayle the OC information pamphlets from opencarry.com so she'll have some background material.
BTW, Gayle produced the Roger Hedgecock show for 8 years (before Jimmy Valentine), which is how she knows him.
She's also a member and past president of the San Diego Press Club and knows most everyone in San Diego media circles.
Definitely a good person to have on our side.

Absolutely. I'll make sure to record it for everyone that can't tune in.

The Radio hosts I listn to are every educated individuals, that happen to have a microphone and an audiance. But there are people that think they can be president with a degree and less then 200 days in the senate, they have more of a credibility issue in my eyes....

I see the new consensus is that we need to cool it on OC for a while. Not sure I agree, but those who do are certainly encouraged to call to discourage people from OC'ing for now.
