Can anyone cite a law where it is illegal to have dual residency?

Unless the assault weapons are registered with CA DOJ to them, then it would not be legal to bring them back and forth between NV and CA.

It would be unlawful to have licenses in both states.

It would probably be perjury on a federal form (4473) to state that you are a resident of one state, when you are a legal resident of another. One state will be your state of residence. Claiming otherwise would be a lie.

If a person maintains a home in 2 States and resides in both States for certain periods of the year, he or she may, during the period of time the person actually resides in a particular State, purchase a handgun in that State. However, simply owning property in another State does not qualify the person to purchase a handgun in that State.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I got a NV ID card but kept a CA Driver License active. I was in NV for years living at home and going to school. Just didn't want to be treated differently when going to casinos bars or clubs in Reno.
Plus I didn't want to break any laws by having 2 DLs.

Ahh thanks for the correction, hmm but the one question I still have is whether it is legal to transport a cali-assault weapon through cali. while a resident of a different state. If it is legal, then there's where my idea spawned from.

Since you guys are busting my balls about why I even asked about this here is the answer so you can judge if I am justified or not:

              - My wife's parents are giving us a house in upstate NY. (How would you feel if your wife's parents gave you a house across the country?)

              - Before I was married I lived with a buddy out here in CA, Harbor City area. I had a nice little thing going on before I moved out and my wife was in her accident and doesn't work now.

I left a bunch of my stuff at my buddies house who I trust 150% - I plan on sending my wife out to NY to get the house done up with her parents and I am going to move in with my buddy, if things go sour in NY for me - I will just saw f-it and come back to CA and live with my buddy. I will still have a residency out here in CA (my buddy's house) but I will be in NY, the time period of how long I will be in NY I am not sure about - depends on how it goes.

Now I have lived in CA all my life and I don't really want to surrender my CA DL. Period. But in NY you need a permit to own a pistol (or even touch one for that matter) this permit requires a drivers license I believe, plus I am going to be needing a NY driver license.

Am I worried about breaking the law and having 2 ID's with my info on it? No. Sorry guys, I just don't care and I really don't think any government agency cares - especially if the ID's are in 2 different states.

                - Get a CA ID. I have both an ID and a DL, it's fine.
                - Keep a utility bill in your name for your place in CA
                - Surrender your CDL for an NYDL
                - Get a pistol permit in NY
                - Use your CAID for handgun and long gun purchases in CA, using your CA utility bill to prove residence

As far as the utility bill, either make sure it's paid online and therefore is just a paper copy, or make sure you REALLY trust your buddy 150%, and he pays it. Hell, it could just be one of his existing bills for his place put in your name.

Without the utility bill, you can still buy long guns in CA. With the utility bill, you'll be able to purchase handguns.

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.
