More disabled people oppose assault weapon restrictions

Surprised to read an article in the L.A. Times about a handicapped group who opposes assault weapons restrictions. This was in the papers last weekend.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles." I still don't understand why women are so opposed to guns. Just like I have a fear of to many people and criminal why do these people think that OTHER people with guns will save them in the nick on time. I think these are the "disabled" one and the people in that article are fine.
The liberal see's the glass as half full and tries to take more.
The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!

Marijuana gained popular acceptance via disabled and handicapped that needed the drug for medicinal purposes. Maybe ending gun restrictions can follow the same path.

I am disabled and use a wheelchair. I sometimes follow a forum for the disabled, mostly wheelchair users. I was surprised at the number that are opposed to firearms and or self defense in general. There are plenty that own and carry guns or keep them in the home for self defense and fun but I guess I assumed more people would understand the usefulness of some form of equalizer when they are in a vulnerable position.
I came across a post there some time ago that I almost linked here but it didn't seem appropriate. From what I remember a disabled guy (not sure on the age or degree of disability) was in a back room in his apartment in San Francisco when he heard a noise from the living room, I got the impression he strolled out there thinking it was nothing only to be knocked down before the intruder fled. What surprised me was a few of his follow up comments, one about how worried he was that it could have been the female who he lives with whom it sounded like was more vulnerable than him. With that still in mind he also brought up how bad an idea a gun would have been and how it would not have helped because the intruder was able to jump him so probably would have got his gun if he had one. So many flaws in this, while a firearm is not magic plenty of people report being not only far less confrontational but also more cautious, myself included. While a gun is not necessary to act this way simply expecting or planning for the worst when you think there may be an intruder very likely could have helped in this situation. Another comment from another less gun friendly country was amusing when the poster wrote something along the lines of they were surprised every intruder isn't shot in the us with all the guns. Guess they have people believing even San Francisco Ca. Is armed to the teeth.
Not related, but one member was paralyzed after being shot repeatedly when he was robbed. 3 men approached him and demanded his wallet, he complied but they still began threatening him with a gun so he fled and was shot in the back. Even with stories like this people still insist that not resisting is always the best option.
Glad to see the few vocal members on the forum is not the norm. Also wanted to add that unfortunately between being limited to a somewhat clumsy for me fixed mag and 10 rounds in exchange for features that make rifles much more maneuverable and comfortable for me and others I have found myself much more focused on handguns almost solely because of California's rifle restrictions.
