LR308 AP4 free float handguard removal

    Hi fellow calgunners!
I need you to school me on how to remove the free float handguard of a DPMS LR308 AP4. What tools will I need and how will I do it without damaging anything? Please lend me your experience and knowledge. Thanks!

I did this for a friend of mine he may have had a differnt hand guard but I am assuming it was the stock one since he had no idea how to take it off. If this is wrong I apologize.

The hand guard has a ring piece that covers up the little nut that holds the hand guard on. It is secured with blue loctite from the factory so you will need a heat gun to melt it. Heat it up until it comes free or starts to smoke a little. Once that happens slide it off so you expose the nuts. Loosen the nuts then the rest of handguard should slide off. I am 90% sure they have their own special screw too so make sure you have correct tool for unscrewing it.

Thanks Gun-Smoke I'm not quite sure but I think I've got a different handguard from what you are explaining. I'll check tomorrow and I read on another forum that a strap wrench is needed but no exact instruction was given. I can't find any DIY video or step by step instructions

The strap wrench would be used to separate the two pieces of hand guard once you melt loctite.

But again you may have a different hand guard best bet would be to post a picture.
