    M&P 22 VS SMITH&WESSON 22

Which one would you recommend? I haven't shot or had any experience with these two firearms other then reviews. I'm leaning towards the M&P because its lighter and is not picky on ammo.

S&W offers three different types of .22LR pistols.
Two are made by S&W in the USA and the third is licensed to Umarex & made in Germany.

The best .22LR pistol S&W makes is the Model 41.
It's the best in all aspects.

The S&W Model 22A is more accurate and reliable than the S&W/Umarex M&P-22.

The S&W/Umarex M&P-22 is the best tacticool .22LR trainer pistol currently on the market, but it is not as reliable or accurate as the other two S&W .22LR pistols (Model 41 and Model 22A). The S&W/Umarex M&P-22 is essentially a product improved Walther P-22 fitted inside a Umarex airsoft M&P pistol body.

If you want excellent accuracy and great reliability, then get the S&W Model 41.
If you want great accuracy and good reliability, then get the S&W Model 22A.
If you want good accuracy and good reliability and look cool, then get the S&W/Umarex M&P-22CA.

I'm very cautious about using the term "the best" about anything.
I have an ancient 22A That shoots great and is only picky on ammo when I feed it the oldest, cheapest stuff I can find. Picky means 3 or 4 fail to fire out of a box of 50 for my 22A.
I think that's acceptable for shooting paper targets, shotgun shell hulls, etc.
It had the shortest barrel on it (4-4.5) and after x number of years the retaining hook broke off the rear of the barrel.
I found an NOS 7 inch barrel on Gunbroker for less than a hundred and it shoots even better although looking like a short rifle.
For the price, I don't think you can beat the 22A for fun.

I have both the 22A and an M&P22 pistol. bought the M&P pistol about a year ago and the 22A a couple of months ago. I have shot both of them very little since I've had them due to the shortage of .22 ammo. I've put about 2 boxes through the M&P and found it to be a fun gun for general plinking. accuracy is fair, I can keep most shots in the black at 15 feet off hand of the smaller 6" shoot and see. My only complaint is the rear sight is kind of cheap and difficult to adjust. the rest of the guns construction seems good and better thought out then the Walther p22 IMO. I experience no reliability issues with it other than 2 misfires. No feeding issues but I used only CCI mini mags as suggested by the manual.
I've barely shot maybe a box (50 CCI stingers) through the 22a and found it is definitely more accurate, lot smaller cluster at the same distance off hand. I haven't shot them long enough to determine any long term reliability but the 22A had no failures and the M&P was more likely due to ammo than gun. the rounds fired the second time with the same amount of dent to the rim. IMO though .22 pistols don't have to be 100% reliable and are just for fun but the 22A may become a new small game hunter for me if I could just get some more stingers.

I haven't shot the other two but I own an m&p22 and I love it. I have maybe had 3 malfunctions in 1000 rounds and they were all ammo. It hits where I am aiming as well. I have no problem keeping a good group at 25 yards.

I have both the M&P and the 22A.
I like the M&P. It's a full size pistol that is consistent with it's 9mm brother.
The pistol is made by Walther. I am not familiar with Umarex's involvement.
My experience is that it gets dirty fairly quick. That may be relative since I used to shoot 500 rounds every trip to the range. This is using Winchester FMJ.
                I don't use LRN.
I don't like my 22A. I bought it for my daughter to shoot since it was on sale at the time.
It's not that it lacks accuracy, I just don't like the ergonomics.
My accurate .22 LR pistols are a Ruger MKII with target barrel and a Hammerli/Walther SP 20 RRS.
                Sticking with your original question:
M&P .22 LR for the feel/consistency of the centerfire versions
                22A for accuracy.

I have the M&P and it is fun to shoot. My wife and two daughters all love to shoot it. They do get dirty quick so keep it clean and lubricated.
