    Travelling with pistol

Im a new pistol owner and will be going up to tahoe this weekend, since snow situation is pathetic want to bring my pistol for some target practice up a fun range there. I was planning on keeping the unloaded pistol in a locked pistol case hidden in the spare tire compartment of my van. Is this fine for travelling. If I get pulled over for a ticket do I have to declare I have this weapon? Ok to take it across statelines to Nevada.

Nevada is an 'Open Carry' state. I carried that way until I got my permit there.....once I crossed state line!!!

Legally transport your firearm while in CA and open carry in Nevada if you so care.....just make sure you know the laws there!!!

If you're on the Nevada side you can have a loaded handgun in your car unless the law changed.

Once in Nevada you can load it and keep it on the seat, dashboard, in a holster on your person(while driving is ok) or even in the glove box. As long as it is not hidden in apparel that is regularly worn by a person it is not considered concealed.

            Clarification:

To be legal in NV, the handgun can not be "concealed upon the person" unless the person has a valid CCW permit.

Which means the handgun can not be concealed on you.

NV case law further defines "concealed upon the person" to include being in an unlocked portable container; such as a bag, pack, purse, case, satchel, etc.
