    Open Carry in Boise, Idaho?

I'll be traveling to Boise, Idaho for the holidays, and I realized that, "holy crap, I'll be in a free state". I'm normally not so crazy about those guys that flaunt AR's out in public just to make a point (although I would love to live in a society where that was acceptable to everyone). But you know what? Screw it. Sheriff won't issue a CCW here, and I cannot open carry as an alternative either. I want to open carry a handgun on my trip just because I can.

I know it is legal and it appears that preemption precludes any local ordinances. But my questions are: (1) do people open carry much in Boise, and (2) are people going to freak out there if I do?

**I know this topic has been discussed before on Calguns, so don't worry, I know how to use a search button. However, in light of the new wave of gun enthusiasm in free states over the last year, I was wondering if attitudes have adjusted much recently.

Thanks to anyone who has current insight.

I never saw much of it while I was there.. other then people walking down the road with their rifles and hunting dogs.. Hopefully some others that currently live out there will chime in..

Boise is just like any other big city.. full of a bunch of yuppie folk. But you are free to do it so have fun.. just make sure you know all of the laws .. and maybe carry a print out with you.

Never seen any open carry in Idaho. I have family that live both in Boise and in some really rural parts of Idaho, they all conceal carry/keep one in the truck.

I've lived in Idaho for about 3 months now. We live in Meridian right next to Boise, and have not seen anybody open carry, i was talking with a guy at impact guns a few days after moving here and he says you don't see open carry to much in the city.

I fly to Boise and drive to Orofino at least once a year. Have never seen anybody open carry.
IMO, open carry makes you the first target. YMMV.

Hmmmmmm. I guess I'm re-thinking this..... I spoke to my mom and brother and admittedly they said the same thing, that no one open carries. But they aren't as into guns as I am, so I was hoping they weren't being as perceptive as I would be.

Technically, open carry doesn't mean completely open. Get a shirt/ holster where the bottom 1/4 of the holster/ gun are the only thing showing and that's technically open carrying. IANAL, that's just my interpretation.

Just do it if you want. No one will **** with you. You're the dude with the gun.

If you visit Idaho often consider getting a permit that allows you to conceal carry there. You can get a non-resident permit for Oregon, Nevada, Utah, or Florida. All of which allows legal concealed carry in Idaho.

Once every two years is the pattern. Family usually comes down here, but I go there every other Christmas. I have a wife and in-laws, so we're in-state every other year. I might as well go ahead and get that permit next time I get a chance.

Grandparents live in Idaho. Spent many summers as a kid. They live in Parma now. Ive never seen anyone open carry. Get a Nevada ccw and your gtg. Shall issue state as well, both my grandparents carry cconcealed. It is not frowned upon at all.

                              1. Idaho is a shall-issue CWL state. Open carry in cities is the mark of a Tourista'. Open carry in the boonies is ignored.

                              2. People don't 'freak-out' about guns in Idaho.

If you used the search button, you'll notice not much has changed.
