A friend needs some legal advice

For the safety of the party I'm posting this for, I'm going to stay somewhat ambiguous about the details.

A friend of mine was assaulted with a firearm by their significant other. My friend has concerns they would like addressed before they move forward with LEO. If you're an attorney and are willing to talk to them, can recommend one, if you're a season LEO and are willing to talk to them, please let me know. PM or post here. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You want me to throw names down when the other person could, or someone they know, could use this board? It becomes serious, to me, when your SO shoots at you.

Forgive us Sally, there has been a recent surge of ban resistant repeat offender trolls as of late on this board, so we are understandably skeptical of any potentially inflammatory post made by a brand new member.

That said, if your post is referencing an actual event the best advice you will get here is as follows.

Don't post any details and have your friend call a lawyer who is familiar with domestic violence cases. That's it.

            ^^^^^^Exactly.

Make sure the friend is doing the obviouse. Like restraining order, living with someone else and staying out of contact etc.

Alot of domestic murders happen when the SO comes back for some stupid reason.

Your friend should contact Don Kilmer. His office specializes in both family/domestic relations law and Second Amendment/gun law.

Your friend should be prepared to engage a qualified lawyer and pay the lawyer's fees. If your post is accurate, this is too important a matter for your friend to rely a gun forum for advice.

If it is as urgent as you state, you are already late in calling LE.

My line into "serious" is waaaaay before this point. Would I be off the mark to say that this relationship was "turbulent"? Repeated "heated" and loud arguments?

I would also suggest some sort of therapy or at least talk to a social worker about what sort of life choices lead one into these types of situations

If your friend was assaulted with a firearm, you don't need any advice from a firearms forum member or an attorney specializing in firearms law. That's like asking for advice from a mechanic when you've been hit by a car.

Your "friend" needs to contact a lawyer who handles domestic violence cases for advice.

^That right there. Although looking for advise after I have been shot at on a internet forum sounds like a good solid tactic too.

                              As above...

Any "Late reported" assaults or battery's will be viewed with a very skeptical eye.

Realistically it will be a "he said she said" unless there is actual evidence of a crime.. (bullet hole in the wall Ect.)

The longer in duration between the supposed crime and the report will also impact the veracity of the incident.

If the act took place weeks ago, and the "victim" is just now getting around to making a report......Well, why the wait? If the victim was truly in fear for their safety they would have immediately fled the house and called the police...
                              Poke'm with a stick!
