    Ammo storage box size?

I have 2 small plastic ones and am thinking about buying more. I like them for easy portability (don't have a dedicated range bag yet) but think I should get some larger ones (or one big one) for dedicated storage. Any ideas? I'm guessing any durable, water tight container should work.

I recommend getting a 50cal ammo can and bending some sheet metal and riveting them from the side of the can making 2-3 sections inside of the can and use it as a "day" can it will have enough bullets in 3 calibers for a day at the range for the average shooter. Just make sure they are a little shorter that the can so when you close it it stays water tight.

By the way if you do this be sure to get some sort of silicone based glue (auto parts store) and with your finger go over the rivets to keep the can water tight.

I like the small orange ammo cans with the rubber seal. They hold any caliber and are light enough to carry 2 fully loaded.

      10 dollars at big5.
I have had many range bags, they rip, cheap zipper breaks, they get wet on the bottom. After the house flooded my two range bags were soaking wet. I bought 3 of these with a rubber bottom that goes up about 2 inches on the sides.

Buy the surplus 50cal ammo cans.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Definitely surplus 50 cals, they have a rubber seal and are durable.

            MTM makes excellent ammo cans.
They're polymer, and they'll hold anything you can put in them.

.50 cans and great. Durable, stackable and seal tight. Turners in Pasadena gets then in often and they sell out quick. They are about $20.

I normally take one of the Plano plastic ammo cans with me for each caliber. I usually keep about 4-500 .223 in one loose and about 200 10mm in another

I like the smaller 30 cal boxes. After you fill up a 30 cal box it gets pretty heavy. I know the 50 cal box will be quite a bit heavier.

                      ^ Totally!

I guess I'll stick with the plano 1312 boxes. They don't get hella heavy when fully loaded and for $7 a pop at my local Walmart...

I prefer 50's to any other size. it's the Goldilocks size.

                        And...

Of course that's around $20 for the can and $13 for the MTM organizer, rather than $7 a pop from Walmart....

one size doesn't fit all. i pick up milsurp ammo boxes of various sizes at the swap meet.
