Do most gun shops prefer ARs over AKs?

if I had to pick one gun in a SHTF scenario, it'd be an AK... just my 2 cents...

AR's have home field advantage and a higher profit margin. Put a quad rail in a standard AR and they charge quad-ruple the price, plus all that tacticool crap they sell with it. Cant do much with an AK, side mount optic maybe but putting quad rail and AR type adjustable stocks on it is just wrong so very very wrong.

It's simply because all AR's are made here in the US, and there are many manufacturers making them...

Not so with AK's. I don't think there is a single manufacturer who makes all the parts for the entire AK rifle here in the US...

Despite the obvious disadvantage of the AK rifle, many US soldiers prefer it over their standard issued riffles. In fact, the AK rifle has often been voted the weapon of choice over any other platforms.

Personally, I still prefer my AR. It's highly customizable and much more accurate than the AR platform. And while it may be a bit temperamental to environmental conditions and less resilient to extreme usage than the AK, it can still get the job done when it is kept clean.

Agreed. and for as much as parts kits seem to be going for these days, I can't see why their aren't companies getting into the manufacturing business themselves.

As simple as the AK design is, I don't know why there aren't US companies putting out a stamped 100% US rifle in the $300-400 range (or milled for more). They could even build them to better tolerances than the com-bloc milspec. I'd buy one.

Maybe when the parts kits finally dry up completely.

One thing I've noticed is that most gun stores that have AR rifles usually have lots of them, sometimes walls or racks full of ARs of various models, calibers, setups, etc. However, I almost never see the same amount of AKs in a store.

They do that because everybody knows the AR is a more accurate and durable rifle and the .223 round has more knockdown power than the 7.62. People usually want the best there is.

maybe also the social stigma of AKs being a communist gun and ARs being more like the M16/M4. the good guy gun vs the bad guy gun

More civilians have been killed by firearms in the hands of other civilians. Maybe we should take away civilian guns and solve that problem?
