BLM 2 people, safe or not?

The only time I've ever been out in BLM land was for the CalGuns zombie shoot, so I don't really know what it's like out there at all.. Then a couple weeks ago I saw a thread about some people getting robbed at gunpoint while shooting, probably snuck up on them?

Would 2 people, be unsafe? Granted I'll have a handgun holstered ready to go, would it be an unwise decision to go out this time of the year?

I'll only be shooting for an hour or so. Does anyone frequently go by themselves or with very limited company?

I have never worried about it. Never had any trouble. I just am aware of what is or is not happening around me.

my brother and i go out there by ourselves all the time. we both holster up and one sets targets while the other hangs back with the rest of the weapons. just keep an eye on whats around you. i load with my back to the range so i can watch up and down the road.

I go out during the week solo and have no worries. Its not like diving.
If something is going to happen its going to happen.

Wow. That's ballsy to rob a bunch of people shooting guns. However ive been out in Borrego Springs BLM area with just my brother shooting and the only time I worry is during the night when im sleeping. ive herd/ read of mobs of drug cartel raiding desert campers in the area as they are crossing the border wielding AKs and other various semi autos. supposedly they steal all their expensive toys and use the transportation.

During the day I like to think I have good situational awareness and always know whats approaching. like everyone is saying just keep your eyes open and pay attention to your surroundings. Its sad to think we have to watch our backs like that but its the world we live in.

Don't be scared or worried man. Go have fun. I go out to BLM almost every weekend to either hunt jacks or blow up watermelons (yes I pick up when done and for those of you who do not, you're a douche) by myself or with brother.

We go out all the time in small groups, no problems.

Never had a problem or worried about conflict. If in hilly ground don't leave all the firearms at shooting point when you walk downrange to check targets. Take a loaded firearm with you if anyone around. If a bunch of people shooting in same area like glass house santa barbara don't worry about it.

It would be a bad day for someone if they just rolled up to me and tried to rob me while Im shooting. I always have a loaded handgun on my hip, and depending on what Im doing some rifles too LOL

Scary, I have seen a guy roll up on a dirtbike and whip out a .357 and just start shooting downrange. Guy just laid his POS bike in the dirt and had his pistol in his waistband! It can happen fast, we all need good situational awareness and probably best to buddy up! Good looking out to keep someone at the table while setting up targets!

OP, just curious where you read about someone getting robbed. I would want to know where that was. Me and a friend go to BLM land several times a year with no issues. We usually end up going to Hodge when we go. If youre concerned maybe you could get a group shoot set up. let me know as I might be interested.
