Just got an EOTech XPS2-0 holographic sight and love it. So why do I still need the metal front and rear sights? The metal front sight bugs me and seems to be in the way. Should I remove it? Will it affect my AR's performance?

I shaved down my front sight base to fit under a MI SS Gen2 FF 15" rail. I run only a cmore red dot on my flat top rifle. The rifle is used for 3 gun competition and plinking. If my red dot fails (hasn't in a year of shooting), it is not the end of the world. Some people like to co-witness a red dot to their irons so that they both line up.
If your front sight is not part of the gas block, then you should just be able to remove it.He who dies with the most tools/toys wins

Replace it with a folding sight, then it's there when your EoTech takes a poop.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment

I agree, replace with a folding front sight that you will still use when the Eo battery goes out. Also many use a front iron sight with a RDS, it may seem pointless but its not. Since the front iron sight never moves with the way you position your head on the stock, but the red dot does, you can use the front as a reference point to always insure the dot is exactly centered as you raise the rifle up to your head. You pickup the dot immediately, and its centered every time. I'm also comfortable with red dot and no front sight at all, comes down to personal preference.Comment

Irons are a fun challenge, you should keep a set on. But if its strictly a range rifle and you still dont want them, your rifle wont be affected if you removed them.Comment

I have run red-dot optics with the front sight in place without any problem with it "getting in the way" of anything.
Go shoot it a bunch first and see if it actually presents and issue with your shooting performance.Comment

Even in 3-Gun you may need irons. Try the 45 degree sights.The liberal see's the glass as half full and tries to take more.
The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!Comment
