"Importing Shotgun from Canada"

My bro in laws father(Canadian Citizen) who is in a nursing home in British Columbia, has a Belgian Browning s/g that needs to get to the US as it is in storage and always subject to theft. My bro in law(Canadian/Antiguan citz) will be flying to see him next week. Anyone have an idea on if Fed Ex, etc could/would ship to me(CA res.) or only to a FFL here? Or could my bro in law just check it as luggage and bring it to a good home(me)? He for sure cannot bring it back to Antigua where he and my sister live. Any other ideas appreciated.

The gun would have to be imported into the U.S. by an FFL using a Form 6. Regular dealer FFLs can do this "occasionally" for sporting arms. But a Licensed Importer (Type 08 FFL) might be easier for you to use since they have more practice. If it's a commercial firearm (not military surplus) and over 50 years old then a C&R FFL could even submit the Form 6, but only if they are importing the shotgun for their own collection. C&R FFLs can't import for other people.

The costs associated with importing and shipping a firearm really only make it feasible for more rare/expensive firearms or ones that you have an emotional attachment to.

Need to submit a ATF 5330.30A (Form 6 Part 1) in triplicate 60 days before attempting to import a firearm into the USA.

Without approval, US Customs will seize the firearm as contraband.
