Does anyone know the current rules for magnetic ammo at Oaktree Gunclub? I have an mosin shooting 7.62x54r and a 308 enfield. I have magnetic ammo for both. The 308 was purchased at Oaktree. I was told I cannot shoot it at Angeles. The 7.62x54r is mfs zinc plated steel case. Where can I shoot that? Many thanks

You're better of with a $400 .308 unless you plan on taking out taliban from 2000 yards away hahaComment

They used to allow steel case ammo untill around a year a a half ago. I used to go there to shoot untill they stopped allowing it. Now I just go to Angeles because it is cheaper to shoot there.Want to Buy: Ruger PC9 Magazine Buttstock PouchComment

Steel case or steel core? I know they restrict steel core ammo but I don't think they care about the case.Rogue American, Media Mercenary.

Clarification: steel core. The ammo I bought at oaktree is federal XM80C. It does have a light bi-metal core ,can't shoot at angeles, but oaktree did say I can shoot it there, they sold it to me month ago. Thanks again, Glad I joined this site, great people here.Comment

I remember a couple years back that they allowed steel and bimetal when shooting paper, but not against shooting their steel targets. Not sure if that's changed or not.Comment

I've only seen nic pics of Oaktree Club so I cannot say anything about the rules.
I admit though that Angeles is a bit anal over using steel ammo at there range even though the your using ammo where the steel used in some is the shell and not the bullet itself. In part that's why I can't shoot there as much cuz there rules don't have any allowances.
If you bought your ammo at Oaktree then your fine shooting at there range. Don't try it at Angeles at all cuz you'll be very dissapointed unless you buy there ammo which is way over priced.
The last time I bought ammo at there range it didn't even function in my AR and when I took it back they gave me a big hassle cuz it was a brand name (PMC "Bronze").

They will not allow you to shoot any steel core or bimetal jacketed ammo that you bring yourself on the rifle range or on the steel pistol range. They also sell all sorts of ammo that they don't allow you to shoot on their range, so the fact that you bought it there doesn't matter. They don't allow steel case because they collect brass, but sometimes the RO's are cool if you're shooting copper-jacketed steel case, like a few of the Hornady loads.
It's a pity, because they used to let you shoot any of it, but now the rifle range is situated in a much more wooded/brush heavy area and it is a hazard (they've had a few fires). I wish they would open the "police" range back up - it's much better and much more clear of brush and trees.Originally posted by CSACANNONEERKeep in mind that you don't have a clue.Comment

ammo
So today I called oaktree and they said that the federal ammo I purchased there I CAN shoot there. It is magnetic. I will bring the 6 boxes I purchased and the sales slips just in case. I will keep you all updated and really appreciate the help and info.
