Questions regarding a possibly screwed up PPT

A few months back I purchased an on-roster handgun in a PPT. The transaction took place at a gun shop that comes highly recommended for PPT, SSE and other services. I filled out the 4473, provided my CA drivers license, address confirmation (car registration) and answered the required questions aloud. I paid $35 in cash, received a sales receipt and left. Quick and easy. Eleven days later I returned and they handed me my gun. "Is that it?" I asked. "Yep."

I'm pretty inexperienced as far as firearm transactions go (that was only my second handgun purchase and first PPT as a buyer), so I was counting on them to walk me through all the steps, dot their I's and cross their T's. Driving home, I started to think about all the things I expected to happen that didn't:

    1. The handgun didn't come with a locking device, yet I wasn't asked to purchase one or sign an affidavit. (I have a CA DOJ safe and was ready to fill out the affidavit.)
    2. I was never asked to demonstrate safe handling.
    3. I never received any printed record of the sale.

Weren't these things supposed to happen? If so, could I get into trouble, either for never having signed an affidavit, or because I don't have printed proof I purchased the gun? I'd like to square this up before year's end, and I'm willing to drive to the store to do so (it's far). But before I contact them, I wanted to know what everyone thinks I should do. Call, email or just show up? And what should I say? I don't want to come off as a jerk or a complete imbecile.

    Thanks for any assistance.

Sounds like they may have short cut a thing or two - they may have had you sign certs / affidavits without explaining what you were signing

Personally I think all of that other stuff is BS - but I know - WE are expected to follow the law (unlike criminals and politicians)

Two things - I doubt your record will be "the one" that gets Checked during an audit - and - even if it did, the shop is responsible not you

So instead of looking over your shoulder - go out shooting!!!

You are the first person ever to be concerned about NOT having to buy a lock. Relax. You are also the first person ever to be concerned about not being asked to do safe handling. Again, relax. There's no legal requirement to have printed proof of purchase. If you want a copy of the DROS paperwork, just ask them. Preferably when you pick up your firearm.

Thanks guys. I was mainly concerned about not having the DROS paperwork. I have all my serial numbers stored in a safe place so I guess it's time to relax.

You won't get into trouble for anything you mentioned so I wouldn't worry about it.

You don't have to have a copy of the DROS but the shop should supply you with one if you request it. I have heard of shops not wanting to give out copies but legally they are supposed to.

They dont hand out the DROS papers with every sale, and honestly, most gun shops around norcal (where im from) just write in a lock code to save you the money
