    DROS system going down?

    Sorry if dupe...

I was at a LGS yesterday and one the reps said the DROS system is going offline on December 14th for the rest of the year to accommodate system updates needed for new laws going to in effect on January 1st. He pretty much implied there will me no way to start a DROS for the rest of year as of the 14th.

This could be quite problematic for those wanting to purchase long guns before January 1st.

Has anyone else heard about this?

No. But I think it would be a good basis for a lawsuit if it was implemented.

There are laws going into effect on the first. Certainly there are people who will be taking actions to do legal transactions before the first which won't be legal after the first. If these transactions are prevented by not being able to DROS then that will effectively extended the implementation of the law to December 14th.

So until you see official word from the DOJ, I'd consider it FUD.

I did some quick Google searches and didn't come up with anything. You would think if this was true that there would be major outrage posting already. And gun shops are famous for saying there's some new law that means you have to buy NOW NOW NOW don't leave the store do it NOW.

you walked in and the salesman probably thought he had an "easy target" when he saw ya...just think, if you tell that to 100 customers, 10 of them might impulse buy "that day", instead of waiting

I would have difficulty believing that, if one LGS is aware of that, they all would be aware of it

I will say who and where once I complete my transaction with the vendor. I don't need any paperwork to get misplaced or delayed until I have my order in hand.

I don't think it was to initiate an impulse buy as I was there for something already bought.

What I do know is what he told me. I conduct a variety of investigations in my line of work and need to be good at documenting who said what.

Saw this at Iron Sights in oceanside, they have some big signs up about it. IIRC if you have started your dros before that date you are good for pick up but I could be wrong

This may be an interpretation of the new registration on long guns that goes into effect on 1/1/14. I was in a local gun shop this week and the manager was working on the new system for long guns.

You would think the state would use the old pistol registration system, but apparently not. The state is allegedly taking over all the paperwork from the dealer and it affects the time the sale is made from what he told me. In any case he and the owner were staring at a computer screen working on getting it operational before the deadline.

Nothing was said about a December 14th date, other than that is my pick up date for a long gun that entered the system on the 4th.

Talked to my local informed FFL and he said FUD. Said that ffl's have till the 12th to switch to the new DROS system and that the old one will be shut down after that. Said the new system has more features. Registration is still 1-1-14

They're probably talking about the new DROS Entry System the DOJ is changing to. I didn't see anywhere that this would stop purchases from 12/14-12/31, just that they couldn't use the old system after that date. You were bamboozled.

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother. Some people are just incapable of understanding the simplest of things.

According to the signs they had posted at Iron Sights, The entire DROS system would be going down from the 14th-Jan 1st. Take it with a grain of salt but thats the word they are pushing
