    Buying off roster 1911

    Ok I'm looking to buy a 1911 .45ACP and the firearm description says not California DOJ approved. Now my question is can LEO still purchase a non DOJ approved firearm for off duty?

      You can still purchase off roster. Youll need a letter from Chief or Sheriff of your agency to exempt you from the 10 day wait.

                              LEO are banned from regular donut shops. They are allowed in tactical donut shops.

                                      non leo can buy also....gun store needs to do a single shot exemption

                                          For LEO's, yes you may be able to obtain a letter from your supervisor, however the law is very clear that the non register DOJ firearm must be used in the line of duty, Not Available for LEO private Non Duty purchase.

                                          Don't end up like Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff that is being prosecuted for such (from what was announced by Media)(third hand info)

                                                          Nope. LEO's are exempt from the roster restriction.

                                                          Non-Roster Handgun (Unsafe Handgun) Exemptions Criminal penalties may attach to persons who sell, purchase, give, or otherwise transfer a non-roster handgun. However, there are three groups of public entities that may purchase non-roster handguns. The prerequisites for purchase, the eligibility of sworn members of the entities to purchase non-roster handguns for personal use, and the restrictions on resale vary. For complete details please see California Penal Code section 32000, et seq.
