The notion, 'It's not in the Constitution, so we can do whatever we like' to an enumerated right (recently decided by ALL NINE JUSTICES as an individual right) is pretty appalling. 'Grotesque' was the term used in the recent Heller opinion on such legislative attempts. Yes, there's a scourge of crime, but there are more then enough tools and laws to prosecute those who commit crimes with firearms. Having some gangbanger with 11 charges rather than 10 is NOT an improvement.

Applying that logic to any other individual right recognized by the Bill of Rights would be (rightly) criticized and laughed out of court. Ban computers, they're used for hacking, they're not mentioned in the Constitution! Ban Islam, they're not mentioned in the Constitution!

Well, the Supreme Court -- through numerous cases -- recognizes that the Bill of Rights applies even with newer technology not specifically mentioned in 1789.

What next, licensing for exercising Constitutional rights? A license to practice Buddhism? A license to live in one's home without being subject to random searches? A license to peaceably assemble? A license to own a firearm? (Oh wait, the government already does the last two... "Free Speech Zones" and Handgun Registration.)

Additionally, it's pretty disingenuous to use petty means to write out the Second Amendment. Why not just come out and state your opinion: that nobody should have guns? That you're for the repeal of the Second Amendment? I doubt you'd get anywhere with that, but at least you'd have the truth of your convictions out in the open, rather than using insidious efforts to legislate a Constiutitional right this government must guarantee its citizens.
