Hey guys I had a question, anyone have any input on some of the better hearing protection available? I have a big head so I'm concerned some of the over head might put too much pressure on me and give me headaches. I have been using regular old earplugs but I'd kind of like to move up to something better, I already lost quite a bit of hearing from my time in the military....damn jets...

+1 for Howard Leight Impact Sports. I use them in conjunction with ear plugs. My hearing excellent and I never get any ringing after shooting at the range.sigpicComment

Double up; plugs and muffs. Either one, by itself, doesn't work. Your shooting glasses earpiece messes up the seal of muffs. The plugs won't attenuate the concussion hitting the side of your noggin from the muzzle blast.
Get the electronic muffs so you can hear the rangemaster or other worthies.Comment

I have been using the Peltor Tac 6's for over 15 years. They even work well for my Open AR-15 yet you can hear everything around you. about $55 on Amazon, get the neck band model. You can reverse the ears also.

I have a big head. I have no problem with the peltors. The 6's are nice but their ratings are not the high. The 7's are rated higher. If you like the behind the head, consider the Peltor Tactical 7S Classic Headset.
If you shoot long-guns, a lot of folks get the 6's and flip each ear piece for a lower profile. They will often wear plugs as well (at least in the shooting side ear).Last edited by AAShooter; 11-29-2013, 4:06 PM.Comment

What do you shoot and where do you shoot them? Some are better for for handguns/indoors and others are better for long guns/outdoors.Comment

Mostly shoot 7.62x39 rifles and a .380 makarov usually indoorsComment

Get some of these custom molded into your ear silicone plugs. You need something low profile like that for long gun shooting (at least I do).
There is a motorcycle guy that makes them for motorcycle guys, and they are good for shooting. Which is good since some of us ride motorcycles and shoot guns.
