    PPU Match ammo

Anyone use it? Specifically looking at .308 168gr HPBT.

What kind of accuracy are you getting?

Better than PMC, worse than Beginners handloads. It seemed that the rim of the case was thicker than normal leading to a more stiff closing of my 700's bolt and the brass was difficult to reload because it wouldn't fit in the shell holder.

Guess that explains the price then.

The best group I've gotten with it at 100 yards was about .8 inches. It's very decent ammo for less than 1 dollar a round but that's it. It's not very consistent all the time.

Ive used PPU match in x54. Its good quality ammo and good brass but match is a but of a stretch. Better than avg but not as good as tuned handloads or the Russian match ammo that was made for competitions.

I never had good results with the 168s. Worst match ammo I've used. I can't recall ever achieving 1 moa.

              Could be the shooter though

I'll post some results when it gets here, figure some good tests for others might not be a bad idea.

I had trouble closing and opening my savage bolt on ppu 308 as well. doesn't seem like quality ammo

Cant tell you about accuracy but I did get a few cases from a Dragunov shooter 4 lanes down one range day. Seems like decent brass. Thick walls good weight. Havn't tried to load any yet but I was told it should be good for loading. Again as far as accuracy goes I cant say.

A buddy and I both have Armalite AR30 bolt action rifles in .308. His rifle loves PPU 168 gr Match and mine hates it. With his rifle, I can average .75 inch for 5-shot groups at 100 yards. With my rifle, that opens up to 1.25 inch. You really just need to buy a couple boxes of each thing you want to try and see how it shoots in YOUR rifle. I found that American Eagle 7.62x51 168 gr OTM has averaged .9 inch over 275 5 shot groups. When I want smaller groups, I use Federal Gold Medal Match, which has averaged .6 inch for 40
                        5-shot groups.

Yep, I'll post up some pics next weekend when I can make it out to the range. Opted to go hunting this weekend instead of hitting the range.

I got a case back before the prices all went to crap. It fed and fired fine in my M1A, but the gun was having loose fit issues (bad scope rings, loose gas cylinder, loose barrel band). I haven't tested it since getting everything tightened up, but it was getting the same size groups as some a-max loads which were quite a bit smaller than 150 gn economy loads. A lot of people have said it is roughly a 1 MOA load making it match, but just barely. For bulk "match" ammo, I like it, but I wouldn't try setting records with it. Seems like nice brass also.

for some reason my 700 hates it.

with FGMM 168gr i can hit 1 inch dots at 100yards with 3 shot group, but with the PPU 168gr, i will be lucky to hit a human torso...
