    AR Scope help

I have an AR chambered in 308. I am trying to find a scope for close to mid range shooting. I will be shooting at paper and metal targets. My price range is $200 to $500. This will be my first scope so I prefer something easy to use. Thanks for your help.

.308 is a long range round.

      Define: "close to mid-range"

Mid-range for a shooter with glass could be 50 yards, or 500.

.308 cartridge can be a heavy round for cheap scopes so I'd look at $400 up to be safe.
      I'd buy a Vortex Viper:

        I am thinking 100 to 300 yds.

Then I'd still get the Viper. People say that you want x1 magnification for every 100 yards that you shoot. X1:100, x4:400. I like x3:100, so x9:300 yards. Basically, if I purchased the 6.5-20 Viper, I'd feel comfortable at about 600 yards, and x30 for about 1000 yards.

I second the Vortex Viper. They are great scopes using great glass and coatings. Pluse a lifetime no cause warranty.

the vortex viper is a real good choice....BUT...remember, a good scope can only work IF you have a good quality scope mount to match....I recommend american defense quick release scope mounts...they`re reasonable priced too

Check out leupold, I have a mark 2 on my ar-10 and haven't had any problems with it. The others they have go on hunting rifles so I doubt an ar-10 or any .308 will have any ill effects on them and their normal line of scopes are a bit cheaper than the Mark 2 or Mark 4. Think I paid $650 for mine new from optics planet. Its the one on the ar-15 in my avatar.

Whatever scope you get try to make sure your adjustments and your reticle use the same units of measurement. It'll make your life easier if you get into long range shooting.

                              Thanks! That's a good deal for a m308.
