Online firearm order "Lost" by USPS

    Ok,

So I had ordered a firearm from an online dealer and they sent my firearm via USPS. Based on the tracking info the gun was suppose to reach my FFL today but when I track it, item is not shipped and is stuck on "Processed from xxxxx Sort Facility". Does this mean that the gun was lost in transit? Anyone have experience with this?

USPS tracking sucks. Sometimes the item is delivered and it still shows its in transit so call your FFL and confirm

Yes, sometimes it wont update until the package is delivered (just had this happen to me a few days ago)

Yea, it takes time to update and that depends on shipping.

Just had it with UPS too. Arrived somewhere but never showed departing... just showed up on the next arrival scan in the next hop.

If they did loose a gun in transit I think the ATF might be interested in helping find it for you.

Tracking by both USPS and UPS is a guesstimate in most cases.

I have had stuff show up early without warning as well as late. It gets really annoying when you can see it got put on the wrong truck by following the updates of where it's at as it moves around the state, while they try to get it back to where it belongs without running a special truck.

i like the text alerts you can set up online. i usually get the "delivered" text within 30 minutes of it having been signed for by my FFL.

When I was in school I used to be one of those poor bastards who loaded the UPS freight trucks.

Basically the hub is a massive warehouse with trucks arriving at one side and boxes being unloaded (and scanned for arrival), then shipped by conveyer belt to the sorting area, they're sorted and sent down different conveyer belts to the outgoing trucks where they're checked to make sure it got sent to the right place and scanned while being put on the outgoing truck.

The outgoing loader is responsible for anywhere from 700-1000+ packages an hour and sometimes packages either don't scan (torn label or tape or something) or they get missed due to the loader trying to keep pace.

We got updates at the beginning of each shift as to how many non-scans or erroneous packages were on the previous day's truck. If they were too high (10+ for a 4-5 hour shift) you'd have a supervisor watching you work that evening to make sure you didn't screw up again.

Not that I'm trying to make excuses for UPS missing a scan, but it's a rough job with high turnover. Missed scans happen... Customers don't like it, UPS doesn't like it, but usually it's the mistake of some poor sap in a part time job, sweating his balls off and that was the 0.2% of his work that got missed in the shuffle.

Yeah; its not a big deal to me that the scan data is not perfect. The stuff still gets there.
