Oregon trip for Thanksgiving

Not sure if right area to post this.

Going to Oregon Tuesday after work. I would like to bring my AR and Rem 788 to go shooting on the family property. Besides the obvious following California laws on transporting, is there anything I need to know? Is it safe to bring my firearm to Oregon to target shoot?

Sorry for my ignorance on this matter I have never traveled to another state with them and would like to be positive I am doing it correctly.

If you transport the rifles in the same legal method you use in California you should have no issues in Oregon. Keep them unloaded in a locked container or trunk. Oregon's firearm transportation laws generally aren't as strict as CA, but the federal GFSZ of course still applies.

However municipalities such as Portland can and do impose stricter than state laws. To be safe don't have ammo loaded into your magazines, especially if you bring a handgun as that is against the law while travelling through Portland without an Oregon CHL.

Shoot I hope it is cheaper for ammo there! I only have about 100rds so I am planning on looking around while there.

I do plan on keeping them totally locked and separate just as CA laws. I will be in Jackson County which I have heard, what ever that is worth, is no where near as strict as gun laws here in CA.

Jackson County has a county park with a drag strip, dirt track, sport fields and a shooting range.

So yes Toto, you aren't in Kansas anymore up there

Awesome! my fiance finally agreed that she is ready to leave this state and move there. We are thinking before our son starts kindergarten school. He is 3-1/2 now so with in 2 years.

We already bought a home in Jackson County, Eagle Point to be exact. Looking forward to moving there soon.

Nice! I'm looking at Oregon also although I'm more interested in the coastal areas as I've had enough hot summers to last two lifetimes.

Eagle Point is great! awesome area with some decent people. Hear a lot of bad about White City and east "Methford" but I am sure it is who you associate with and all. Not to mention the crimes of opportunity I.E; leaving car unlocked, kids bicycle out, house unlocked, stuff like that. Problems you will get anywhere really.

Coos Bay is a nice area. I spent a little time on Central Oregon coast and man is it gorgeous! Like Big Sur on steroids! Cliffs, trees and ocean what a great mix.

Locked or unlocked stay diligent on what you leave exposed in your car or put in your car and then leave it there. RV has some really great people, and some desperate people. I can't over the amount of For Sale signs there or the number of times I have been asked " Do you have a job for me"

That is what I am afraid of is the unemployment. I have been doing steel fabrication and machining since I was 17 and there is not much there. My girl how ever is a CNA and there seems to be a fair amount of work in that field. ugh decisions....

i was born in ashland and just 2 weeks ago sold my dads house for him in wiemer/ city of rogue river. meth is bad up there, mexican gang problems in mdeford and lots of unemployeed but we are still thinking about goin to grants pass once the wife is retired. also most pay doesnt come near what it does down here. if they hadnt changed their laws on rooster fightin we would move back for sure.
