Decide what you want and get that. Asking us won't be helpful.

Don't know what to already have, but maybe a nice 1911, or a 357 revolver?

It would help to know what purpose the firearm would serve. Then you may receive Some useful feedback.

Mosins are amazing and the ammo is still reasonably priced

Everyone needs a 1911. Then again everyone needs a 12g. Crap, everyone should have an AR too. Well I guess I'm not much help!

Seriously though, if you already own a pistol, the shotgun would be my next choice. It's usefulness can't be beat. Also if it's your first one I would highly recomend a pump. My simple mossberg will outlast me no question. If you have both get an AR-15 once again it's a versitale weapon depending on setup and ammo it could be anything from a hunting gun to a cqb rifle with just a few changes.

Personally the 1911, although I really want one, is low on my list due to it being very expensive for a nice one and awfully complex compared to other pistols. It would be a toy for me as I have 2 simple 9mm's that I can depend on. 1000 bucks would buy both of them and some ammo.

You could easily buy three to four of your list if you shop smart and cheap. Id probably do the mosin, chinese knock off 870 shotgun, and a ria 1911

Lever actions are a kick in the pants

Rossi 1892 in .357 would be awesome. These things are slim, liteweight, accurate, and really fun to shoot.

Everyone should own a self loading rifle, pistol, and shotgun .
A nice 22 rifle is always a good choice .

Ruger 10/22 or marlin 795 are examples and each with scopes or improved sights will be about 200 .

When I attended an Appleseed event, it seemed both those rifles were popular and a few guys and gals scored a Rifleman patch with those models.

See the link to Appleseed on this forum for more discussion .
