Best pellet gun under $200??

Any pellet pros here?

I'm looking to snag up a pellet gun for plinking and to save some $$ buying pellets at $8 per 500 vs $30 for 550 or 22lr. Basically getting the same thing and lethality as a 22 with out gun fees, laws and restrictions.

What's the best gun for around the $150 range. I was at Big5 and the Big Cat 1250 caught my eye on the shelf. I'm sure there are much better that can be had in the $150 range. Anyone know pellet guns and what one is he best bang and keeping it cheap.


Requirements:
Must be a rifle
Must be scoped (doesn't have to come with one but be able to be scoped)
Synthetic stock
Good quality
Accurate/Good FPS (700 to 1000)
Group at 50/100 yards
Last long enough to hand off to my kids


Also like guns is there any way to build than buy a better pellet gun via parts for cheaper than buying one?

I've been googling but haven't gotten far. Air guns aren't as popular and talked about around the net as firearms.

Yea I know it seems like it's all eh until $230 to $300 range. But for that money I'd rather just buy a Mark III or 10/22.

Yea I was kinda looking to stay away from PCP's. I have tons of Paintball 4500/4500 and 4500/3000 tanks from my paintball days but dont want to run to sport challet and drop $5 for air all the time. Or grab co2 kits.

Looking for a break barrel or lever pump design.

Sell you a Gamo Silent Cat. Tin of CPHP's (crosman premier hollow points). I never really used it. Too clunky for me. Went with the M-Rod in .25. $60.00

It's been my experiance that the fast pellets over 800 fps do not group well.
That being said I would suggest larger caliber 22- 25 caliber .

I have a Chinese made break barrel about 100 and the trigger is poor !
The 177 calibers do not group well and the scopes break frequently .

The gun show vendors sell a Chinese military trainer with under barrel cocking , although the gun is kinda clumsy and the trigger long and gritty, the rifle does group. About 40 bucks at gun shows . No scope however !

Spending more for a beeman R1 is my recommendation, especially considering you want to hand it down .

Take a look at the Benjamin Nitro Pistons at Big 5.
.177 and .22 cal available.
They are accurate and not much louder than a Gamo Whisper.
About $160.

If you can save a little bit more... HW30S is a great break barrel rifle for your purpose, no mess with scuba tank or pump, super accurate and not hold sensitive, great adjustable trigger too.

Some of the our silhouette club members use it for NRA metallic silhouette match with good result.

I can group .177 inside a nickel at 35yds all day long. The scopes that come with an air rifle are the cheapest pieces of freebie junk you can get. Spend $60-110 on a quality purpose built air gun rifle scope which are designed to handle recoil in 2 different directions and you can have a tack driver providing of course you understand how to shoot an air rifle. Artillery hold immediately comes to mind...




They are more than capable of handling small pests as well
