Why a delay on firearm purchase???

I took my neighbor to Turners the other day and he bought 2 rifles and a pistol. Turners called him and said there was a hold on his purchase per the DOJ. He bought a pistol last year and nothing in his life has changed since then EXCEPT a parking ticket he received for an expired plate that is past due and he kept blowing off jury duty and they threated to fine him SEVERAL times. He has not gone to jury duty because he has stage four cancer and has spent a lot of time going through chemotherapy. He is feeling better now so he wanted to pick up rifle to go shoot with me.
Would an outstanding ticket or failed to appear at jury duty effect a firearms purchase?

    I would think so.

How about you pay the ticket than buy more guns.

A DMV hold equals revocation of rights now?

We can agree that it's the prudent thing to do, but not necessarily the moral one. So, no outrage here

Failure to pay results in a hold of drivers license and you can still purchase firearms.
Failure to appear to court results in a warrant for arrest.
Can you buy firearms with a warrant for your arrest?

Failing to show up for jury duty can result in the court issuing a Failure to Appear notice that can result in a fine, imprisonment or both, pursuant to Code of Civil Procedure 209. If the court did this, that could be the problem.

                  209.
                  (a) Any prospective trial juror who has been summoned for service, and who fails to attend as directed or to respond to the court or jury commissioner and to be excused from attendance, may be attached and compelled to attend. Following an order to show cause hearing, the court may find the prospective juror in contempt of court, punishable by fine, incarceration, or both, as otherwise provided by law.

If your friend has a medical excuse, instead of ignoring the jury summons, he should have contacted the court and they would have advised him on how to get an exemption.

Yup. Note from the doctor sent in through snail mail will usually dismiss it jury duty. Now worst case scenario is that he has a bench warrant. Should take care of legal and DMV issues prior to purchasing.
