    Restricted firearms colors?

Im thinking about my next AR build and Im considering anodizing the entire rifle red, orange or yellow. Im wondering if there are any laws in place that would prevent me from doing this.

some samples found on the inter web ......

Legally, No. Standard practice says that a totally Blue or safety orange weapon is a fake gun so Id stay away from those colors just in case as they are the colors used for "dummy" training guns.

for commercial purposes, purchases, sells, manufacturers, ships, transports, distributes, or receives a firearm, where the coloration of the entire exterior surface of the firearm is bright orange or bright green, either singly, in combination, or as the predominant color in combination with other colors in any pattern, is liable for a civil fine in an action brought by the city attorney of the city or the district attorney for the county of not more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000). - See more at: http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/cacode/P....7pzKk8OF.dpuf

The for commerical purposes is probably where this fails as if you are just doing it to your rifle then that doesn't fall under that.

Theres no standard practice that says that blue and orange = fake gun.
Blue is commonly used to designate simunition
Orange is commonly used to designate less lethal

I have never seen a plastic dummy gun that was available i any color other than those two. Obviously, safe firearms rules should be observed until it is verified a replica is not a weapon, but Id be more apt to think a completely blue gun or orange as a trainer than a pink, red or black one.

Never heard of a "Red Gun"?
They are probably just as common for use as training dummy guns as blue, if not more.

Thats not my point tho you said:

There is nothing that guarantees that a totally blue or safety orange weapon is a fake gun. I gave two examples of how those colors also have designated uses that do fire projectiles. Let alone that anyone and a rattle can could make any firearm any color they want.

My wife has the pink Sig Mosquito, and I am almost done building her a pink Ruger 10/22 (receiver, trigger group, barrel band, muzzle break, scope rings, some parts of the scope all in pink Cerakote).

Good info to know as I'm half way through this project already. More guns to follow suit in different colors/patterns in a few months.

If you can have a pink sig, paint a beautiful 1911 pink, a day glow green ar lower, a gold plated m1 carbine do whatever your heart desires.

                      Yes there is...

The military designates blue to mean training/inert and they use orange to on some fake weapons, I am pretty sure so does LEO.

Thats why when you are looking at gun accessories it's attached to a blue gun. Orange is used in some cases but not as much.

"entire exterior surface of the firearm is bright orange or bright green" define "bright" what may be bright to you may not be bright to me...or the color blind.

Do any color you want. Unless you plan on robbing banks or drive-bys you'll be fine and even then you have bigger things to worry about.
