    Lead ammo and the environment

Recently several Calgunners accused me of trolling because I stated lead bullets have been found intact from the war for independence .
It was my contention that lead bullets cause no environmental harm.

This link may expose some to new information !
There were 20 million metric tons of lead bullets fired in the United States in the 20th century. Is that lead having an environmental impact?

    From choptop!

well, that would be a completely different issue now wouldnt it?

lead is friggin toxic. I'm sure in the future there will indeed be some regulation as to leaving small amounts of a toxic substance where ever in the wilderness. particularly if over the decades of leaving those small amounts it starts to build up and show up in water supplies and wildlife.

Professor James Craig, now retired, and Rimstidt looked first at lead corrosion and whether lead is leaching into the water table or streams. "Lead metal is unstable when it is in contact with air and water. It corrodes and forms hydrocerrussite, the white coating seen on old bullets in museums. That slows corrosion," Rimstidt said.
However some lead escapes, he said. "But we learned that it is absorbed in the top few inches of soil and does not migrate beyond that," Rimstidt said. "Lead is not very mobile. It does not wash away in surface or ground water."

I'm sure he knows much less than those who found it nessasary to belittle my post .

Lead comes from the ground in the first place right?

Lead does come from the ground. Lead Ore gets mined and then thrown into the smelter, undergoing processing.

I'm certified with CDPH as a project manager for lead abatement and removal and it sounds about right that it doesn't seep all the way into the ground water. If a school or home has lead contaminated soil, the plan is to remove the top few inches, lay down a plastic barrier and then add new soil, rocks, wood chips, etc. and that's done to protect the occupants, not the environment.

Any land or home in close proximity to a freeway or major street built before 1978 is at risk of lead contaminated soil from the fumes of leaded gasoline according to the EPA. If it were a problem, shooting guns in the woods sure wouldn't be the main contributor.

The only time that lead bullets in the environment are of any significant hazard, is when they're headed in your direction at 900+ fps. Other than that, not so much.

AHA! I was wondering about the white stuff on the lead bricks out by my shed. Glad it's normal. Think I'll get some watertight storage though.

I have Minie balls dug from the ground dating back to the civil war that are intact. The lead didn't melt and dissolve into the ground. The lead bullet thing is ammo control pure and simple. It is also intended to peel a large amount of the shooting population away from the shooting sports because as inexpensive lead ammo goes away so will many recreational shooters. Their firearms will be 'bought back' by the government and the voting block of firearms owners will diminish.
I take precautions when handling lead bullets and I wouldn't want lead sitting in my water supply but some lead bullets laying about in the top inch of the ground aren't causing any problems.

If these environmentalists really want to do the world a favor they will look for a way to get rid of us. Were the only problem. Were nothing but rodents and virus. We come bread, multiply use all the recourses available until they are gone then move into the next.

I didn't get it any where. What do we give naturally back to the earth. Animals feed and replenish from their stool. But they take what they need. Humans must have it all. it must be bigger! I need some for my friends! I need more friends!

We produce and kill animals at a mass extreme to feed and live on them. To feed them to feed us we need mass amounts of farms and feed. And it just goes in

Everything that just decays the earth at and extreme is humans after we decided on technology and being bigger, better, faster, stronger.

There are so-called "environmentalists" (radical Leftists, really) who are advocating for real ways to get rid of us. Everything from forced abortions to genocide (of the "privileged" white upper classes only, of course).

The hypocrisy of the so-called "environmental" movement in America is that, on one hand they castigate Americans as being so horrible for the environment due to our high-level of energy usage and consumerism, yet on the other hand they advocate for open borders and allowing rampant immigration from the third-world.

If they really cared about the environment, they'd demand the borders be closed and a strict immigration policy. So why do you think they don't do that? (Hint: The primary goal of their "environmental" policies is not to protect the environment.)
