Traveling to Utah

I will be going on a trip to Utah and I would like to know the proper way to transport a hand gun in a vehicle once I leave California. I'll be traveling in an rv and once I get there I plan on doing some offroading and hiking. Can I carry the gun in the off road vehicle and also in a backpack when I'm on foot?

As a general rule of thumb Israeli style carry (empty chamber and loaded magazine) is permissible in Utah for those without a CCW. I would not leave it loaded while in your bag as it may be construed as concealed. Just get a good holster and carry everywhere you can. Also post over at utahconcealedcarry.com

If you do not have a valid CCW permit...

In NV, it is legal to have a loaded handgun in a vehicle as long as it is not "concealed upon your person".
"concealed upon your person" equates to being concealed on you and it also includes being in a portable container (bag, purse, case, pack, etc).
So, it's legal to have a loaded handgun in your vehicle's utility/glove compartment or on your dashboard or on the seat next to you or under your seat.

In NV, it is also legal to open carry a loaded handgun.

Therefore while in NV, you can legally open carry a loaded handgun while driving or have a loaded handgun in your vehicle as long as it is not "concealed upon your person".
