NYT article: 'In Men, 'Trigger-Happy' May Be a Hormonal Impulse'

Dunno where they get this cr*p.

I was checking upper/lower fits on various AR receivers last night while watching late news, and ended up dozing off on the sofa. You'da thunk with all that AR-inspired testosterone in me that I'd get up to something nefarious. But maybe I didn't pour enough hot sauce on my ARs.

In Men, 'Trigger-Happy' May Be a Hormonal Impulse

Handling a gun stirs a hormonal reaction in men that primes them for aggression, new research suggests.

That's not a scientific study, if they had no bias they would have also had the subjects try other things, such as knives, cars, etc.

lol...did they have pictures of motorcycles, nekkid girls, and football, too? if not, sounds like a brady-inspired test.

It's time to publicise this study. After all, regular handling of guns boosts testosterone levels, which probably means improved sexual performance, right?

However, since T levels are linked to hair loss, I guess this explains all the balding gunsmiths out there.

Anyway, I guess now gun owners are studlier to girls? Unless of course they're into the 'metro' look...

Sounds like an interesting study, and I suspect it's more correct than not. It would be interesting to find if there is a causal relationship with violent behavior, however, which hasn't been esablished.

What a crock. Put a naked woman in the room instead of a gun and tell the subject to draw one or the other. I bet you get similar results. This looks like a fallacy of causation. It's like saying that soft asphalt causes heart attacks, when we all know that on a hot summer day both events occur because of the increased heat.

A higher level of testosterones isn't indicative of a violent nature. If that is the case, how would they explain violent women? Why did they limit the test subjects to just men? They only used 30 subjects, that means only 15 got the gun. Not a very diverse group by any means. They don't have a wide enough subject base to draw any conclusions.

I think with this study for first time gun users it might be true, but for some of us that have gotten use to them, it would be a different story. Hell! I get pissed when I am gaming more than when I trying to make my gun work or working on it. The title of the article kind of tells me the author is just making this into a gun control issue when really it is not. To me it seems its just a first time issue and believe it was that way for all us as well.

              Also..see this...

"We're trying to find out what makes the difference between high-testosterone men who do well and high-testosterone men who don't," Booth said. "High testosterone individuals are more likely to drink more, smoke more and get in accidents and fights ... Many of them are unemployed."

I wonder if the 'scientists' used any gay men in this study?

I tend to agree with Charliegone on this one. I think the whole taboo thing might be what is triggering the effect.

I find the second study much more interesting, and I would like to see the final results. I wonder what they hope to accomplish, " Sorry Mr. Johnson but, we have to cut them off. Think of the children."

I think whether gay or straight, it will give out the same results (unless of course they are gun nuts.)
