Might be moving to San Fran

Hi folks,

I got asked by my boss today how I feel about SF and was told I might get offered a transfer (and promotion). Right now I'm in San Diego, have an 80% rifle built and 2 pistols. Anything I need to know in particular? I know SF is kinda crappy in terms of firearm policies but I couldn't find anything in particular. Just looking for a bit of help in terms of what I should be expecting.

Typical big city in California - anti-gun politicians at all levels.

Probably a bit higher cost of living than SD. Colder weather than you might expect.

No actual special gun laws, though the city continues to pass dumb stuff that gets thrown out in court later.

Vendors won't ship rebuild kits to SF but next year it won't matter anyway.
BTW there is good fishing in the Bay Sturgeon,Striped Bass,Halibut,Leopard shark,Soup fin & Seven gill shark's.

The food is great, a lot of the chicks are hot (even better when they aren't wearing a long coat, a scarf and a hat), the fishing can be good, great duck hunting exists near there.

The politics are stupid, the city is crowded, the people are generally rude, homeless abound, IIRC there's some issues buying ammo (can't buy ammo in city limits?), parking is expensive, a crappy apartment costs too much, free parking is nearly non-existent, space is at a premium, expect to have passive aggressive non-confrontational neighbors that prefer to call the landlord/police to let them know that you are walking too loudly in your apartment at night, the process of moving in or out sucks a bunch, the city gets stupid busy during any event, panhandling is the norm, too many one way streets, the cycling in the city sucks unless you're a critical mass type or hipster idiot, your car will get scratched and dented unless you pay for the garage parking (where it /might/ get scratched and dented), cabs are expensive, clubs are expensive, bars are expensive, there's not as much 24 hour stuff as you'd expect.

In short, if I were you, I'd live well outside the city and commute to work and play in the there.

Your jackets will not be warm enough. I think the cost of living will be much more than SD though. The city is pretty small so rents within it are quite high. Everything costs more (food, entertainment, et cetera).. so don't be shy about asking for a cost of living boost. Don't forget parking. Need a space at your office and your future apartment. If you don't ask; you won't get it.

It can be fun for awhile. I just stayed too long and the politics burned me out. Go in with an exit plan.

Just because you work there, doesn't mean you have to live there.......

yeah; and if your single you can even hop the southwest bus and fly back to SD for weekends.... For years I was flying back to OC about 2 weekends a month....

You could always live outside of San Francisco. It's overpriced and you'll likely have trouble getting ammo shipped to you. Also worst weather in the bay area. Great food though

Do not live in San Francisco. Try the Tri-Valley. Much lower crime, lower rents and lower d-bag:square-mile ratio. You'll commute but you'll have a nicer life and BART is an easy commute to deal with.

otherwise, it's just like SD. Crowded, smelly and full of people you wish you could silence or simply send away. Oh... and Samuel Clemens wasn't fibbing about the weather.
