    Do I have Black Talons?

I received two 50 round boxes of ammo from a retired LEO in a trade.
He told me that these were the Black Talons that were available to LEO's only.
Are these Black Talons and if they are what are they worth?

These are the same series as Black Talons. The name changed back in the day due to it's political scaryness and what have you. It became SXT and is now called T-Series.

It is the same round, it has just improved and changed names a few times.

Like Plisk said they are in the same series as the Black Talons. But no you do not have actual Black Talons you have Ranger SXT. Black bullet but brass case instead of the nickel case.

          Nothing.

Many people misunderstand that original Black Talon rounds are illegal or prohibited in some way. The name of the rounds caused many in the media to think they were super-magic-vest-defeating-cop-killer rounds. So Winchester agreed to stop production of the Black Talons. Immediately introduced SXT rounds. The joke started that SXT meant Same-eXact-Thing as Black Talons.

I remember Black Talons having a spike or tit in the center of the round, not just a opening like any other hollow point.

I thought there was still a law on the books making it a felony to use them.

Nope. Might be a city code in some places.

"Law Enforcement Only" when it comes to ammo just means a marketing slogan printed on the box, that's all.

They're worth what they cost at the store. Anyone can buy them.

                        No such law ever passed.

IIRC, After they were used in a high profile shooting, San Francisco banned possession of them.

Colin Ferguson on the Long Island Rail Road. Carolyn McCarthy's husband was killed, son seriously messed up. Winchester actually announced they were pulling BT's a month before the shooting...
