    Pre-ban AR mag release

Way behind the current Republic of Kalibrokia laws I'm sure but

my pre-ban Colt AR15 has a standard mag release thumb button.

My rifle is exempt from the bullet button requirement these days yes?

Is it registered as an assault weapon? If so, then yes it is exempt.

    If not..........
    Now we know!

If you registered it as an 'Assault Weapon' back before the ban then you are exempt from the bullet button or having to go featureless. Just being old enough to be pre-ban doesn't mean anything, especially because your Colt was probably banned by name.

The Cort AR15 types were banned by name. Best you have paperwork that you have it registered....if not...big trouble.

Under Dan Lungren's tyranny following the 101 California incident I did indeed get it registered. I keep a copy of the document with the rifle. I was confident the weapon was exempt but I wanted to be sure. Thanks.

Yes if you got the Assault Weapon registration (specifically AW registration, not regular gun voluntary registration) you're fine and are basically exempt from the features and make/model bans for that firearm.

You do have other restrictions such as transport (locked case, no unnecessary stops on the way, ect), can't let a kid shoot it, and all that fun stuff.

              Stix,
To be positive, I reviewed my records and verified that I did reg it as an assault weapon. What a paranoid PITA state Kalifirnia gas become. I'm embarrassed to live here.
These other restraints you mentioned I was not aware of. For me common sense dictates no unnecessary stops, no access/use by minors but I did not know about the "locked case" transport requirement. I've always carried the rifle in the same black cordura soft case I bought when I acquired the weapon.
Jeez, what are they going to demand next? An ink blot of my sack to transport legally?

Also isn't shooting it on BLM land not legal?

No, shooting a r.a.w. is legal on BLM Land.
