    Ugh Kimber...

I own a Kimber Compact Stainless II with the older external extractor, its been working fine for years but recently its been having some issues with extraction. I've known a couple people that had sent theirs back and kimber put a new slide on their guns with the internal extractors for free. After having some issues recently, I sent the gun back about a couple weeks ago, I called kimber today and the guy said my bill is $225 for the new slide, and that they do not replace the slides free, but on a "case by case basis" looks like they want me to pay for their engineering mistakes... I sent them a certified letter today requesting the gun to be returned to me if they are not going to fix it... I've sent guns back for repairs from many manufacturers and i've never been charged more than the cost to ship the gun to them... this is ridiculous...

That sucks to hear. Call back and talk to Ann Bruns. She's in charge of C/S. She took care of my finish issues I had with my CDP.

I'm curious as to why you would need a new slide and not just have the extractor tuned? Unless they don't make parts for your external extractor slide anymore, in that case, it sounds like they are wanting to sell you a series II slide with the internal extractor.

Side note, thanks for your service brother tanker!!!

they only used the external extractors for a short time then they went back to the internal ones.... I wrote them a letter today stating that I do not wish to pay to have a malfunctioning gun fixed by the manufacturer, and if they will not repair it to please return it to me. At first the guy on the phone said they do not replace the slides for free, then when I told him I know of two people that kimber did that for with the same extractor issues for free he then said "...well its on a case by case basis.."

I found Ann Bruns email so I sent her a message.

[QUOTE=m1a1driver "...well its on a case by case basis..".]

I had my slide with an external extractor replaced last year for free. I told them that I was getting pinged in the face with brass and I was having a lot if double feeds and Failure to return to battery malfunctions. I also told then that it only had about a thousand rounds through it, which was true and it was in excellent condition.

When you sent yours in what was your complaint about the pistol? Was it in good shape or heavily used and abused?

the extractor would lose its grip on the casing and it would only come about halfway out of the chamber, then slip and cause a double feed. The extractor is a replacement direct from kimber after the first one broke. Gun is in very good condition, changed out the springs every couple of thousand rounds, dont know why they want to charge me for a malfunctioning gun. I'll post again when I get a response from Ann Bruns.

I've owned a Kimber for years and had them send parts to replace things I had issues with. I also have friends who had the external extractor slides replaced, and I've never heard of a single instance of anyone being charged for it. That is really terrible service on Kimber's part given that they know the product was flawed to begin with.
Definitely talk to Ann like people recommended. She helped get their shipping department to send me a handful of parts instead of having to send them my gun to have them instal them.

When and where did he identify himself as a leo and ask for special treatment? I don't see it at all.

I've heard kimber is not the greatest when it comes to repair service... I recently sent in a pistol that was having some issues.

So Kimber never gave you a price quote prior to doing the slide replacement? They didn't call/e-mail to get your approval?

I would be upset if they did that.

I do think they should replace the external extractor slides free, but I also understand they are all long out of Kimber's stated warranty.

One of the reasons why I'll never buy a Kimber because of their CS. Good luck OP.
