Primary question: are you a named inheritor of the guns in a will?Hey guys, I have a couple of questions regarding familial transfer between states. I have a Hunter arms co. "Hunter Special" 20 gauge shotgun from the late 20s; along with a couple of boxes of Western Cartridge Co. Super X shotgun shells from around the same time period. It was my Grandfather’s who has been gone for a while now, it’s just sitting there in Illinois. My intention is to bring it home when I visit Chicago for Thanksgiving. I'm trying to figure out how to get it back to California. How do I go about packing them, shipping them, paper work, laws?, etc.
Thanks
If yes, grab them and come home. File an OPLAW form for the handguns.
If NO, however, they need to go through a CA FFL before you take possession; Federal law makes that a felony. (That means you cannot bring them to CA and take them to an FFL here - must be shipped from IL to CA FFL directly.)Last edited by Librarian; 11-13-2013, 7:29 PM.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

I do not believe it specifically mentions me or the gun in the will, my Grandmother is still alive.Primary question: are you a named inheritor of the guns in a will?

But, what about the "CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
BUREAU OF FIREARMS Firearm Ownership Record form" can't I just fill that out and we are all good?Comment

You think you know, but you have no idea.
The information posted here is not legal advice. If you seek legal advice hire an attorney who is familiar with all the facts of your case.Comment

Again, no - Federal law prohibits.
