A good .22 conversion costs as much as a decent .22 handgun so, I'd still say get a 1911 in .45acp and get a used ruger 45-22 or ruger MKII as well.

i have both. got the 9mm first then the .45. 9mm is way cheaper then 45 so you can spend more time at the range

Shoot both rounds and see which you like/shoot better; the one that you like or shoot better should be the one.

Start with a .22 then move up.

Get the 9mm if you don't have much shooting experience. That way when you get your .45, you'll have two guns to play with. Besides its cheaper to learn on 9mm.

I would suggest that you get a .45 to begin with. If you are not good with the .45 you will not be good with any caliber. With that said, once you shoot the .45 you will not want to shoot anything less powerful.

Shoot more first. Go rent and get a feel for whether .45 is for you or not. Personally, .45 and 9mm don't really feel that different, so I went .45 for the bigger holes it makes.

Shoot whatever you're comfortable with. You have more than two choices for caliber! Whatever you shoot best, buy it, shoot it, enjoy it!

9mm is dirt cheap i think i saw 100rd packs at wally world for $15 ish but im getting ready to buy my first pistol and may go .45 just because it has more thump to it and ammo is still pretty cheap.
