If those are typical sized bricks then the window would be roughly 80 inches.
That would put the rifle at about 28 inches long.

I submit for your disapproval and theories as to why any responsible, clear-thinking firearms owner would display for public consumption, their scoped rifle in a second story apartment building window sill? This is in Los Angeles on a pretty busy street with plenty of pedestrian, private vehicle, as well as mass-transit traffic. The rifle is plainly obvious from street level, and makes an unmistakable sillhouette with the white curtain behind it.

Let alone the obvious - attracting the attention of a "concerned citizen" followed by a visit from your friendly neighborhood Law Enforcement Official, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between a window magnifying the heat, and a reflective white curtain can't be good for either the rifle nor the scope. Sorry for the poor quality of the pics, but I confirmed via binoculars that it is indeed a rifle, not an airsoft or other replica. I'm not one to be a knee-jerk, reactionary, alarmist, but I'm just wondering what the hell this person could be thinking!

From the time I first spotted it, it's been on 'display' now for two hours at the very least.

I hide mine by choice to avoid having it stolen when I'm not home. I think the OP is thinking along those lines.

I live in the desert, and have shot in 100 degree+ plus weather

my gun didn't melt or anything

Look at the doors at ground level and it probably is a full size rifle.
