AR Build Questions

I am new to the forum and doing my first AR build, i am not totally sure if this will be the right sub thread to post my questions, i will apologize first if i am doing this wrong.

Again this will be first time i will be attempting to build an AR and i have been researching for a lower that i would like to use for my build, one of the lower that i like has ambi features and i would like to know if i can retain the ambi catch feature but disable the ambi mag release feature when putting in bullet button mag release.

Any information or advice will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There are 4 things ambi-ish on an AR... so I'll address them each individually for ya.

1. Mag-catch/bullet button: For a bullet buttoned AR, if you use a standard ambi mag catch from Brownells or wherever, you could run into problems. The left side of the rifle will not be bullet buttoned, so you'll have an illegal configuration.
If you want an ambi bullet button setup, check out Thorsden Custom. They make an ambi mag catch/bullet button thingy. They also have a self-install kit, which involves drilling a couple of holes in your lower, and tapping them.

For bullet buttoned AR's... this is your best bet.

2. Selector Lever: Lots of places make ambi selector levers... they're all drop in, so you're good to go there. I like the one by Stag Arms... mainly because it's the same size on both sides, and it's cheap.

3. Bolt Catch: There are currently no ambi bolt catches that I can think of. The Magpul B.A.D. lever doesn't count, and is something I personally don't like.

4. Charging handle: There are a few companies making ambi charging handles. My current favorite is the Raptor by Rainer Arms... sucker is pricey but worth it. Some of them have levers that stick out really far and get caught on things. Google "Ambi AR charging handle", and you should see a lot of options.
