    Cal-DOJ paperwork question

If 2 long guns and a pistol, bought and paid for 30 years ago, left the State of California 10 years ago to live in Arizona. Along the way another pistol was added to the group. Is the pistol purchased out of state the only one that needs to have Cal-DOJ paper filled out or do all of them? The original owner is the one who left and returned.
If this is in the wrong section please move it and I apologize for the error in advance.
    Thanks

    Interesting question.

30 years ago - 1983 - transactions were not restricted to FFLs (requirement began 1991), so there is no reason for the state to expect to know anything about a gun purchased then. (If purchased through an FFL, DROS would have reported handgun info to the state.)

I think it's clear that the AZ pistol should be registered under the New Resident requirement (even if, in this case, it's 'returning former resident').

But, if you had stayed in CA, the state would not now know anything about the guns purchased here.

And, if you return before 2014, no paper needed for the long guns in any case, while after Jan 1, 2014 we have the same situation as with the handgun.

I don't think the rest of the answer is clear.

A very conservative answer is 'register anyway'. It's an extra $19 for the CA-purchased handgun to remove any ambiguity.

      Thanks for the response.
First of all these are owned by my F-I-L. The Glock was purchased in Arizona about 6 years ago. They just did move back. I know it needs to be Cal-Doj papered. It is the long guns and pistol that were purchased in Cal. before the move since they are returning to the state that is my concern. I may not have been very clear with my first post. Sorry.

I believe your question was quite clear - it's the answer that is not clear to me. Nothing in the law appears to address the situation.
