I want to sell a Chinese 56 SKS and Yugo 59/66 SKS. If I can determine one or both are 50+ years old, does that make them exempt from FFL transfer?

OOPS! Wrong forum. I should have put this in the C&R forum.

Within the same state, to a non prohibited person over the age of 18, I believe so. (Get a photocopy of their DL). If I'm wrong, someone else will chime in.
If to a valid 003 FFL holder, yes.
Again, must be at least 50 yrs old (the guns) and not require any kind of tax stamp.
BTW, IANAL, and this is not legal advice, just my understanding of the current laws...which may be incorrect.
Good luck!
P.S.
Where you at, and how much you asking?Sorry, not sorry.

Dear autocorrect, I'm really getting tired of your shirt!Comment

I'm in Paso Robles, Central Calif. If I can make sure a FTF without FFL transfer is ok, I'll post it in For Sale.Comment

Production of the M59/66 started in 1967, so The oldest ones are only 46 years old.__________________

If you read the booklet provided by the BATFE that list C&R firearms by make and serial number range you find there are many, produced is some cases all the way up through the 70's that may in fact be C&R. Specifically the Yugo SKS and a few others.
If you want PM the Make, Manufacturer and the Serial number and I can cross refrence it in the BATFE book. If your not comfortable with that I am sure you can find it online somewhere.Comment

All Yugo 59/66s in their original configuration are C&R, that is not the issue. The issue is, that under current CA law, it has to be C&R plus 50+ years old to avoid going through a FFL transfer. Yugo 59/66s are not 50+ years old period so they need to go through a FFL. Also the grenade launcher on the 59/66 must be removed or neutered to be CA legal. If you read the booklet provided by the BATFE that list C&R firearms by make and serial number range you find there are many, produced is some cases all the way up through the 70's that may in fact be C&R. As far as the Chinese Type 56, unless it was part of this recent batch that was certified as C&R, I would go through a FFL. There is info here about dating these rifles that seem to match up with what was seen with the recently released ones.

I had to remove the launcher off of mine too, then again I bought mine out of state, never sold one in state. Thanks for the correction, I was sure it read 50yrs "or" defined as C&R by the BATFE.All Yugo 59/66s in their original configuration are C&R, that is not the issue. The Yugo is CA legal. It has a muzzle brake welded over the grenade launcher and a fixed mag.Comment
