Anyone have any facts whether you could have id plates engraved and inlay in side of ar type lowers to legalize for sale with appropriate data? For me a lot cheaper.

If you sell it, you are then manufacturing it for sale. A lot of laws then apply.
I am no expert in the matter, but I don't think it would be worth it for a single rifle. -
That's not true. If you build it with the intent to sell, then you are manufacturing. One can build a firearm with the intent to keep it and later sell it without being considered a manufacturer.
I'm certain there is a legal difference in engraving a plate for a firearm and engraving the firearm. Someone else will be able to describe it better than I can.Rogue American, Media Mercenary.

I would imagine since the plate could be removed it wouldn't be considered legal. I believe there is a depth requirement for numbers and the fact that they must be deemed permenant. There is another thread on the subject that had the actual ATF req. or doj I can't remember.Comment
